Spring in the High Desert

Click photo to view enlarged

Seems like a lot of us are posting beautiful images of emerging buds and flowers to celebrate Spring. I was very tempted to do the same thing because so many of them are so beautiful. I even went out to find some crocuses or tulips to capture. Then I thought that I had some lovely Spring pictures taken only 5 days ago where Spring is a little different.

As I was walking back to the car from taking a few pictures at Bryce Canyon I noticed this lovely piece of old wood poking out of the snow, and what a beautiful background. While I was photographing it this little bird flew in and started eating the tiny bugs that must have been in the cracks. What incredible good luck for that to happen just then. The elevation here is just about 8300 feet (2530 M) above sea level.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I love hearing from my visitors!

That bird just makes the shot! Would have been good without it, but with it it's superlative.

That is a very different picture of spring... compared to what I've seen in my own neck of the woods. Nice shot!

Beautiful! The shadows add depth to the shot and getting the bird in there - great timing!

Beautiful light, perfect exposure and I love your crop. I would like to see this image from edge to edge without the frame. (I just got back from spending 2 days with friends at their cabin which is also around 8,000 feet. There was 4 feet of snow on the roof! It was beautiful, but looked and felt more like winter to me!!
