One of the methods they like is to take a photo overexposed by a couple stops and then two more identical except totally out of focus and about one stop overexposed. They then take the negatives and sandwich them to create a new effect. The effect usually turns out similar to this one I posted on a previous Phun Phriday!
That one was not a big hit and received very few comments, probably because most of us were taught by our mothers that "If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all." I personally loved it, but we are all different. I thought I'd try the same thing again with a different subject, but this time I went through the blending modes in PS and actually found three or four that I quite liked, but when I hit "Difference" I knew I'd hit pay dirt.
To make the photo above, I used this photo
As you can see, neither of these photos by themselves is worth keeping, but when you combine them in PS using the right blending mode some pretty interesting things happen.
These next photos were accidents created as I was trying to put my frame on the photo. I guess not all accidents are bad.
Have you done something outside of the box recently? We'd love to see it. Just leave a link to it in your comment. If not, I hope you'll feel free to comment anyway.
