Phun Phriday! #24 - Monochrome Lake

(f4, 1/50, 14mm, ISO 160)

There are many gorgeous places all around this world, but Utah certainly has one of the widest variety. Even though I love to travel and see the world, I do feel lucky to live here.

You may not know that there is a place in South Central Utah that is so colorful in the variety of minerals that it is called Kodachrome Basin. I guess somebody figured it wasn't fair to have a Kodachrome and not have the opposite which would be Monochrome.  As I mentioned the other day, there are dozens and dozens of lakes in the high Uinta mountains, there's Mirror Lake,  Butterfly Lake, Moosehorn Lake, just to name a few.  To me the most interesting and amazing of all is Monochrome Lake.  If you ever get the chance to visit the High Uinta mountains in Eastern Utah, don't miss the thrill of Monochrome Lake.

Phun Phriday! is all about thinking outside the box.  Have you done something Phun, wierd, creative lately?  If so, leave a link to it in your comment.  If not - well I'd really love to hear from you anyway.  I hope you had Phun with this one like I did.

I decided that since this was such a unique reflection I'd submit it to Weekend Reflections this week.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you!

What a pretty pond and mountains. I'm feeling like I have seen this spot before, but it did look a little different. I'm wondering if anything special happens to something that enters the pond? One of your Phun Phriday best, right up there with with the motion blur trees.

I followed your link and foudn bryce canon and other beautiful places. I drove through Utal twice in 1985 but only on the interstate, waht i could see was fantastic. did not have a camera at that time. your photo is just simply beautiful. and i like the black and white of the lake and am pretty sure you photoshopped it, right? the black and white i mean. i want to learn to change parts of the picture like that

Ahh, landing on the Emerald Isle...a wonderful experience.
Still, that lake doesn't look too shabby.
Reflections are so lovely.
Just in case you think my images are phunny enough(not so much photo-shopping as merely quirky):take a look HERE
I do have better things to do than playing with PSP :-)
I just don't want to do them.)

Good morning Scott!

This is a really Phun one! I think this is my favourite in your Phun Phriday series, so far!

The shot itself is really lovely and the monochrome reflection is a really interesting touch!

As you know, lately I have been having phun with phlowers. You can see today's attempt here: Fun With Flowers 4 or you can view the whole series here. Enjoy! :o)

Wow Scott!! Well, first, I just love your header! Was that on yesterday and I missed it? The sun behind the bridge, I spend lots of time snapping sunsets, and this is just outstanding. But the lake!! Now here's what struck me first, since I snap lots of reflections and shadows. The reflection is not in color, how did that happen?? I'v never seen anything like that! Did you alter it, or is that some weird effect of Monochrome Lake? In any event, it is really stunning. Now I really want to see all the other lakes!

Wow Scott, add my kudos to those already posted here. This is awesome. So how was it done and how do you get the frame on frame effect too. I notice that Krista used this effect as well. Thanks

O.K., Scott. I took your challenge. My whole blog is devoted to your weird, phun phriday. I don't know how to put a link on here. Would someone tell me how? Is it some HTML thing? Just check it out at judyohio.blogspot.com. Love your picture of course. You are the king.

Very clever and what a beautiful spot. Gotta get me to Utah!

I like the creative technique. I actually didn't notice the lake itself was monochrome until I had looked a while, nicely blended. Nice, clear reflections too.

That's a gorgeous setting. Though I think I would have preferred the reflection to be coloured as well.
