The Bridge

(f3.5, 1/13, 14mm, ISO 160)

This photo was taken within a few feet and less than 10 minutes of yesterday's Sunset Sunday shot.  All I had to do was turn to my left about 110 degrees.  I loved the way the late sun was reflecting off of it.

It is impossible to capture the hugeness in this image, but you might imagine it somewhat if you realize that it is an extra wide 4 lane highway going across the top of it.  It is approximately 1,500 feet (457 m) long and 486 feet (148 m) above the Snake River.  (About 40 stories in a modern office building.)

In the twenty to thirty minutes that I was there taking photographs two people jumped off the bridge about 5 minutes apart, and unfortunately I didn't know it was going to happen so I didn't get photos of either one.  Oh - did I mention this is the only man made structure in the U.S. where BASE jumping is legal year round without a permit, and there is even a landing zone at the bottom?  I didn't learn that until later.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you!

What a fantastic shot Scott! I love the colors in this one and it's amazing how sometimes all we have to do is turn around and there's yet another stunning photo... I love when that transpires. Now why in the heck would anyone want to jump off of a perfectly safe bridge? That is beyond my comprehension! lol

what an amazing shot. i have been here in the US for only 3 years and the only state i been to aside from where i live now is my next-door neighbor New Hampshire because i live just at the board of Maine and i have not seen any bridge like this one.

it's interesting to know that it's ok to jump from the bridge though i don't see myself doing just that.

love the photo. love the tone and the composition. the arch underneath made a dramatic impact on the entire bridge.

Beautiful light on this massive structure. As for me I would be hesitant just to drive across, never mind jumping off.Just the thought gives me shivers.

I would never ever never jump off this bridge or any other.
that said, i love the photo. it has music to me, the straight line of the top of the bridge zooms down to the middle and the underneath picks up the beat and goes rolling away. the ground in the back ground has ripples of music in it. I think i am saying i like the compostion a lot. it's beautiful

i like too the way the sun rays's touching the steel. it gives the bridge a more 3D look.

Scott,

my post will be down to a trickle these coming weeks as well, my wife had a major surgery last Friday, she will come home tomorrow but will need a bit of time to recover fully.

...will try to make up as soon as i can.

Godspeed,
Dave here

Cool shot Scott. Such clarity and rich color on the bridge. My assignment this week in my photography class is "leading lines" I think this photo would fit the bill nicely! Don't worry I won't steal it!

This is so beautiful, Scott! I love the way the bridge is so lit up, and it highlights the fall colours showing up, too. Great one!

Hi Scott. Nice to see you again. What a beautiful shot of the bridge. I love it.
I am a bit slow on commenting as we are going to move house within two weeks so we are kind of busy. When all this is over I will have more time again.
Have a nice day
