Engine Trouble

Found this out where the Great Salt Lake has retreated the other day.  Looks like an old 16 cylinder aircraft engine.  There were some other parts, not too distant, partially buried in the sand.  Since this is not far from one of the flight paths into the Salt Lake International Airport, and also not too far from a common training flight area for nearby Hill Air Force Base, I have to wonder if it didn't just fall off of a plane many years ago.  There is another possibility that just occurred to me, though I haven't seen too many of these out there, it could have come off one of those airboats that are often used in very shallow waters.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you!

It looks like you took the picture through a screen door. What are you up to here? I am always finding old engines in the desert but never an aircraft engine. A neat find.

Wow, I wonder what the story behind that is? I hope there wasn't a plane crash.

I like your title Scott - as well as the photo - piques one's curiosity.

Now, maybe with a bit of spit 'n polish ...

What an awesome find. This photo is different for you Scott, it looks like you have some type of filter or did something to it, what is that effect? The stories that a desert could tell if it could talk, now that would be interesting... until then I'll use my imagination. :-)

Great photo, as per your norm.

I must confess: I like the plain version much better. Possibly because the sand already has such lovely texture, and the whole feel is so clean. But then, I know beans about texture. Only just coming to grips with layers and still don't know my raster from my vector :-)
