Phun Phriday! # 40 - The Grunge

That's right - it's Phun Phriday! again.

Those of you who have been to my blog more than a couple times are aware that I have recently been playing more with HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging. Like many, when I first became aware of HDR I saw a lot of images that are what I call "Way over the top" and I avoided it. Then I learned that you can have HDR images that look very natural, and that is what I wanted to achieve.

Today's photo is one of those that many might consider "Way over the top", but for this particular subject I thought it was kind of Phun! The HDR program I use is called Photomatix and it has a setting called Grunge. Like all the other built in settings you can alter them as you choose. I chose to leave this just the way they had set it up.

As you know by now photography should be Phun and that's why I have my Phun Phriday! posts. Have you done something Phun, weird and/or creative lately? If so, leave a link to it in your comment or just tell us it's there so we can go find it. If not, I'd really love to hear from you anyway.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you!

An odd name for an effect that to me looks like a very nice acrylic oil painting. Neat truck. A good restoration project. But I'm done with that sort of thing.

I'm not sure about the name -- Grunge -- but I sure do like the picture. You had Phun creating this, and I had Phun viewing it.

I'm not a huge fan of HDR landscapes but it somehow seems to come into it's own for mechanical/industrial subjects where a bit of an art feel works well. I actually love what you've done to this one. You seem to have got the hang of the technique.

Scott this photo makes me WANT to learn HDR that much more, I love this! Awesome shot and job of turning it into an HDR photo!

I do so love what you are doing with HDR. Truly masterful. I attempted to teach myself. I have Photomatix and a couple of books, but had a hard time getting very far with it :-(. Something about the tone mapping gets me stuck. Definitely need to get back to it, and your gorgeous work is such an inspiration to me.
Have a wonderful weekend!

At first glance of the photo I thought of the old tow-truck from the children movie 'CARS' .. I he was called "Mater"
Have a wonderful weekend Scott!

Your my inspiration!

Phun again! Nice end product; I like the effect. And what great subject matter!

Lol, as a matter of fact, it wasn't the resident who wanted to know why I was photographing houses, but a police officer :{ (yesterday - I gracefully - I think - explained what I was up to, then he gave me an Union Pacific calendar - I think because I was near the train tracks too!)

Hi Scott, normaly I don't like over the top that well...but this is a true beauty, like it's been airbrushed or made with pensels..

Love what you did to it.
I must get some time and work with HDR once.

I love this! I don't think it's over the top. It looks like a sketch or painting. Nice.

The hdr really spruced up the old truck. The hdr really did wonders.

Despite the damage the car, I loved this picture! He gave a very nice contrast with nature.

Good week!

Kisses with love.
