I often say that "My mama raised some ugly kids but she didn't raise no dummies." No I didn't make that up, I heard it somewhere and decided to use it. Did you see my post on Saturday? It was the exact same original photo as today, except I really reduced the saturation and applied some filters and texture. Engine Trouble was sure the right name. My mama also taught us that "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" and I know most of you have heard that saying and so my stats show that a lot of people looked, but only 6 had the nerve to comment. That tells me that I had photo trouble.
Maybe you'll like this one better. Please let me know - was it the subject or was it the treatment of the subject. Is this one better or just different. You can tell by the light that it was shot during the golden hours - just as the sun was setting.
Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me. I look forward to hearing from you!

Much better than Saturday's.
I like this one better. You can see the contrast in the ugliness of the old rusted engine compared to the beauty of the water and sand. God's hand and man's hand at work so to speak.
Oh yes, much better. Why I had not even noticed before that it was sitting in water casting a reflection. Like it!
I like this one a lot Scott for the color, but I am going to have to say, I like the one from Saturday better, with one exception...the vertical line "thingys" in the texture. If you could soften those up somehow, I think this would be amazing. First because I like the texture you used, and second because it think this photograph lends itself to a texture.
Don't give up in it!!! :-)

I liked the first one, and the second is great. There are many great finds when the lake is low. Last year I found on old, purple wiskey bottle near Monument point. I love to wander around the lake shore and along the old railway looking for history. Besides, I am getting older now and the lake bed is flat! :) Having my knee repaired on the 24th so things may be looking up in the future. Up the mountain instead of around.

Great shot. Both treatments are good but I like the second one better!
All you images are super
I liked the post processing on the first - but love the color in this... it pops!
I was going to say "wouldn't it be funny if this one garnered 8 comments too?" but here I am about to make it 9. I do like this one much better. That saturated sunlight is what makes it a beautiful photo in my opinion.
I prefer this one - but being a girl (!) I don't really get excited about bits of old metal. Sorry. It's nothing to do with whether it's a good photo or not, I just couldn't think of much to say.
Scott, I like this enhanced photo better than the original, only because I like the thrill of changing photos. I liked the original too, as I find most subjects of interest, even old boots!! If I had to choose, I'd take the enhanced one simply because it has more 'texture' and 'richness'. I think all your photographs are amazing, and I'm pleased to have encountered your blog, as it is so stimulating. I will never be at your level, but it doesn't hurt to admire others' gift. Thank you sincerely for your visit to my bug shots.
What I liked about the Saturday one is that the texture made the engine look even more decrepit - it fit with the story.
What I like about this one is the contrast between the beauty of the surroundings and the old rusty engine.
So - either work for me; I guess it depends on how you 'look' at it.
Thank you for sharing
This fabulous work with us
Good creations
Gosh if you're going to drag honesty out of me, than yes I like this one better :) I think it was the treatment on the prior, it didn't do anything for me, no pop and with your photos I'm used to pop. Not saying you can't change or experiment. But this photo is great! Interesting subject matter in a beautiful composition.
Scott, catching up a bit on blog reading. I liked this first photo before seeing the original post. Now that I have, I still like this one better for its contrasts and colors which show the deterioration and rusting. After reading the original post, I wondered if a plane had crashed.
this is amazing the way you cleaned it up. I am unable to do that YET. it really is a great photo now of an ugly engine. I love photos of things like this. i have group of photos of rusty spikes that are ugly and nice.
Interesting picture, had to ask my husband what it was, and he saw it right away. I really liked the picture very much.
Yes, I like this one better. Comparison aside, I just plain like it!
Ummm, I'm having a hard time with this one, and your first post. I like the treatment of the first and the color and lighting of this one, but the subject matter doesn't grab me. (I've probably seen too many old engines propped up in our garage as my husband restores muscle cars). I'm thinking it's the composition. Maybe if you showed more of a
the beautiful lake in the BG then it would be interesting as a comparision (the beautiful versus the ugly), or if there was more of a story, like the remains of an old broken down car in the BG. It seems to need more explanation than just junk. I can't quite decide. Anyway, those are my honest thoughts, probably more than you wanted!
Yes...this one wins the prize! Beautiful places with strange items left by mankind do create interesting images...Nice processing, Scott!
I like this one. Really really like it. I can see all the detail better. But there is a place for textures and it did work I think on the other one as well but do like this one.
Hmmm loving this one also as the better one.
