Fire Sale

Yesterday my wife's sister and her husband took us touring to a place called Valley of Fire State Park, about 50 miles North East of Las Vegas, Nevada. I got several photos I am happy with. This is one of them.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you!

To the left of the arch there is a series of holes, not the larger ones but the small more regular holes. They look like they may have been created by rock climbers.
If so, that is a sacrilege. More of the same below that series.

Hey Scott - these are all amazing shots - I could spend several days perusing your site, since we now have three feet at least of snow, I may have that time:) But wanted you to know your photography continues to be brilliant. Love your site. Also loved the gnarled old tree and the sunset - all phenomenal - as I said - it will take me days to get back through these again. Thanks for sharing your trip.

Another wonderful shot.. You make me so jealous when I come here to see your photos... I hope one day I can become half as good as you.

You know I grew up in Las Vegas and now live in Henderson, A suburb of Las Vegas. And I have only been out to Valley of Fire a couple of times.. Its a sad but true story.

Thanks for all the inspiration..

The colors are so brillant. Did you tweak it some or is this SOOC?
Beautiful.

Thank you for all your kind comments. You make my day.

Robert, fortunately those are not what they look like those are all natural.

Barbara, With three feet of snow I hope I can bring you some warmth with some of my photos.

Linda, You better get out of Henderson. Let me recommend you head to Valley of Fire early in the morning or towards sunset to get the golden hours.

I of Sinbad and I,
I can't say this is SOOC, as I did some tweaks in contrast, a touch of fill light for the shadows, etc, but that is all.

A beautiful shot, Scott. Your colors and light are lovely. About a month ago, Jeff and I visited the the Valley of Fire for the first time as well. We've made the trip on I-15 passing this turn off at least twice a year, sometimes more, for 40 years and never bothered to stop. We had a short, but nice visit, but as often happens, we were there in the middle of the day. I took some shots that I didn't think were blog worthy, but maybe I'll have to go back and look at them again.

That is an amazing shot Scott. What a stark contrast between the fiery red rock formation and the beautiful blue sky! Amazing rock formations!

I like the contrast of color in this photograph. Your header photograph (of the Nativity), though, blows me away!

I can see why you'd be happy with this one Scott - brilliant colors, and very interesting features in these rocks that you've captured well ! This one must be going into your next photo book - 'Rocks of Ages' !

Stunning! Interesting texture on the rock formations, and wonderful contrast with the blue sky. This one just jumps out and grabs the viewer.

This is a case where I can't possibly consider the quality of the picture - I am so overwhelmed by the content!

I think the left side of the picture is really cool, but I wish you hadn't included that rock in shadow on the right, for me it creates 'dead space' in the frame.

Just a thought.
