Welcome to February 2011

Have you ever done this. . . go to a blog that you visit real regularly and notice a new header and say to yourself, is that new or am I just now noticing it????  I probably shouldn't admit it, but I have done it many times and then even if I love the image I don't say anything in my comment because I'm afraid I'll be thought a fool for saying something about a header that's been there for two weeks.  Goes back to the old adage that "It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt".

For the past several months, I've tried to start each month with a new header.  I say bravo to those like Sandra who put up new header photos often, or sometimes even daily.  Every month I'll get a comment in the second or third week that says something about my "new" header photo.  It's usually someone who visits regularly too.  It always makes me happy because then I know that I'm not the only one that sometimes doesn't notice.

Today is February First, so I've put up a new header photo, and this month I actually added the February 2011 in the corner.  I'm trying to make my headers more appropriate to the month I'm posting them, and so for February in Utah you get a cold, wintry image. The header was made by cropping down the photo you see above.  I like the one in the header much better since I cropped out a lot of unnecessary foreground and background which brings your attention to what I think is the interesting part.

I hope February 2011 is the best month of your life - so far.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you!

it was probably ME that noticed your header, i do the same thing you mentioned, but once i do finally SEE it i comment anyway. most bloggers no my memory is not good and i would not be a good witness to a crime because i don't notice things. i like the cropped image also. the reason i change mine is because i am like a little kid with a color book and scissors, i like to PLAY and no PHUN playing unless i post it.

Beautiful header - and what a terrific thing to do - I actually love both images Scott - the cropped one is perfect - makes me feel right at home because that's what Georgian Bay looks like right now - lots of icebergs near shore piled on top of one another, with wild black water beyond... but the whole complete image - it's a beauty. And thank you for your good wishes for February - may I wish the same back to you - that it's you and yours best month ever!

I so love your blog and your photos... such treats!

I know exactly what you mean. I miss the new headers early on because I do most of my blog reading in Google Reader, and then just click on the blog and quickly scroll down to the comment to leave my remarks. I often don't notice until much later.

I had someone recently comment about my new use of "perspectives" as opposed to the standard "comments." I've been using "perspectives" since day one. The only thing I changed recently was the font. I suppose that made it stand out now.

Anyway... GREAT HEADER! ;)

I like to see what other people do with their headers, mine stays pretty much the same ;(

I also have to wonder how often we see each other on the Island and have never noticed or known? I have been there four times this last year all on Saturdays.

Exactly! Whew, I am not the only one. I've never changed mine. I've often thought I probably should make a better one so it doesn't appear like you are looking out a dirty windshield on a rough road. But then, that seems appropriate. I like the broken ice flows you've chosen.

I did notice the new header. Thought it was very good.
Also think it's a great idea to change them regularly. Will have to give it a try!

Experimenting with a letter-box crop is fun, I think. It can really add impact to an image, as here. Sad to say that I haven't got the hang of doing a good header image yet. I keep trying but they don't seem to work for me.

I like your photograph and the new header you derived from it. It's very appropriate for February.

Amazing photo Scott with limited color but I like that, it's simple yet gorgeous! I love how you did your header as well, awesome!

What... you have a new header?

The cropped one looks great but I like the other version too.

Great header. I like the idea of change, she said, having never done it herself but now rethinking her stagnancy.
Happy February!

But Scott - you never even gave me a chance !! ;-)

I'm hit and miss on noticing new headers (although I did Darlene's). I suspect most people don't notice (for a while anyway) because most people also don't change theirs regularly (incl. yours truly).

I think a header serves a different purpose than a daily photo i.e. to draw attention to a blog. I like your photo because my eye is lead from the foreground through to the equally interesting background. I feel like I'm looking through a firing slit in a tank when I look at the header - my eyes want to see something above and beyond.

Hey nice header! :) I actually notice your new headers all the time (and the monthly theme), but I couldn't tell you WHEN I notice them! I'm probably one of your two weeks into it people. Anyway, I really do like your new header.

Hi Scott, good idea to start each month with a nerw header. I've thought about changing ours and might do it someday too. Also plan to start a separate photo blog this month. Yes, February will be a good month especially because it's my birthday month AND Hearts Day later this month!

I do love the header, and it's totally appropriate for the time of year. I am one of those who may notice the change, but am too busy flying through, playing catch-up, to comment. I only started changing my header last year, and it's still a bit of "work." But I do like the occasional change. Have fun with it!

I often adhere to that old adage! This header is perfect for a horizontal format, and certainly appropriate for the cold weather we are having. Love the diagonal. I think I have a shot from that same view with a sailboat in the water and a wildflower in the foreground!

Ok Scott, I LOVE the photo. And I think it makes a great header. But I hate the font you've chosen for the name of your blog. I liked it much better before. Sorry. Hope that's not too honest for you!
