Union Pacific 844

Do you like old steam trains? You can find out a lot more about this one, including it's current location here.  If you go to that web site and look at the schedule you will see that it left Ogden, Utah USA at 8:00 this morning and traveled to Evanston, Wyoming USA where it was scheduled to arrive at 10:00 AM.  This photo was taken at 8:46 in Weber Canyon as it made it's way along the tracks.  I would estimate the speed at about 55 MPH.

I will be posting more photos of old # 844 in the near future.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you! Did you notice? Now you can click below and share this post with your friends on facebook!

I love this photograph of times forgotten. I would have love riding this train at the time it was just starting crossing the country.

Grittier, but better than the airplane. And you get to keep your toothpaste tube.

Hi Scott, Grenville really loves trains, especially steam engines and if he sees this post he will want to see this one too, so mum's the word (for now).

Looks like a model toy train I once had. Nice.

I like these steam trains ... and I think especially the approaching siren and sound of the moving locomotive ...

way back when, when they were using these trains to go cross country, 55 mph was FAST, compared to the Model A and T and to horses and wagons it was a roaring tiger speeding along.
