Christmas Help Needed - Free

Click on photo to view enlarged.
Everywhere you turn there are wonderful opportunities to help others around the Christmas season. Unfortunately most of them require something out of your pocket. I would appreciate a little help to but it won't cost you a penny. I'm just looking for some feedback.  I had prepared the photo below for today's post, but lately I've been really wanting to improve my art with effective use of textures as inspired by many of you and especially Erin , Lisa and Kim Klassan.  With that in mind I decided to create a textured version using this same photo.  First I created a texture that I call BriteWhimsie1 and then I applied it to the photo.  I posted the results above.  So the photo above is the textured version and the one below is the original.

The photo is a small portion of one of the Christmas trees of a friend of mine.

My wife says she likes them both for different reasons.  I'd like to hear your honest feedback.  As always clicking either photo will isolate them against a dark background to give you a better view, plus it may enlarge them, depending on your monitor.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you! Did you notice? Now you can click below and share this post with your friends on facebook!

OK, you asked for honesty (o:
I like the textured one ...the extra color is subtle, but very pretty. I might have liked it even more if the picture itself was a tad bit darker. Still, very pretty! merry Christmas to you!

Looked at #1 and #2...don't know which is which, but #1 has so much more pink it makes the other seem almost overexposed...the pink adds interest...

Both a really nice...

Scott, I am going to have to agree with your wife here, in that I like them both for different reasons. However, if I were to choose a favorite, it would be the textured version. On my monitor, it is the more colorful of the two, and I like that.

Because you asked, and just my opinion, I would go a little darker on the textured version (or maybe a different blend mode to darken it some). Overall, I think it is beautiful!!

I look forward to seeing more!!

Merry Christmas my friend.

Scott these are pretty, the first one is my preference. I agree with making it a bit darker. I hope this helps. I find that the best gifts don't involve the wallet, sometimes it time which can make all the difference in the world.

Merry Christmas!

I think they are both special in their own way, but I like the top one just a little more. It looks slightly more colourful. (:

I think there should be more definition between the layers. Some of the highlights are washed out (hot). Your idea is certainly worthy of further exploration.

Merry Christmas!

I'm going to go with the textured version, although both are great pictures. The subtle pinks in the background come out a little more in the texture version, and I like that.

Scott right away even before I read this I clicked on each image and I love the top one with the added color that is soft and yet just enough. It is beautiful and so is the next.
I shall be back I know before Christmas.
Im always playing with texture in ps and I m finding it hard to get the results I like. Maybe I should do aslo you and get feedback. Great idea here.

I love both of them, but I really do like the softness more in the original. The texture has a few more colors but lacks the softness I think the theme and color spectrum has in this photo. But then I really don't know anything. I do love seeing other people trying stuff out. Wishing you a very blessed Christmas.

If I had to pick, or walk the plank, I'd say the first one. Oh but I also love the second. Guess I'll be walking the plank!

I like them both, Scott, but the first one is warmer, has a bit more depth... my choice.
