Mesa Arch

Click on photo to view enlarged.

Sorry to have been away for a while.  I thought when you get older and semi-retired you were supposed to have more time instead of less.  Myself and a couple of photographer friends (some of you may remember Chad who blogged under Antelope Reflections for a while) spent most of last week in the Moab, Utah area last week.  I'll be sharing some of my images over the next while.

First, if you go to Moab for photos you would no more consider leaving without seeing Mesa Arch at sunrise than a devout Catholic would go to Rome without visiting the Vatican. As the Sun rises it reflects off a cliff wall below Mesa Arch lighting up the underside. And so our first stop for photos on Monday morning, after leaving home Sunday night and driving all night long, was right here along with about 20 or more other photographers . . . as usual.

If you've never been to this part of the country it should be high on your bucket list.

Don't be shy - leave a comment or email me.  I look forward to hearing from you! Did you notice? Now you can click below and share this post with your friends on facebook!

I've added Mesa Arch to our bucket list, but I doubt I'll ever get a photo as stunning as this one.

Hi Scott, I was very happy to see your blog in my side bar this morning. This is such an incredibly beautiful photo. I have been to National Arches twice now and love it. Can't wait to get back.

So I glance at the photo, stunned like a deer in the headlights, and quickly move to your write-up. While reading I am trying to place this arch for I've hiked up to nearly all of them in Arches N.M.. I went back to the photo to help my placement of the arch, saw the valley way off in the distance and thought "That isn't right." I went back and re-read it again...WRONG PLACE! I'm on track now. Can't wait to see more and I'll pay closer attention now.

Absolutely stunning photograph. My hubby and I visited here last year, but it was late in the afternoon. Not the best time for photography, as you stated. Your timing and your photo were perfect. Congratulations on the well-deserved POTW mention from Hilary.

Makes me think of the early cave dwellers who would have woken to such rugged but stunning views*!*

Scott, Your photo is exquisite! I live in CO, not too far from Moab, so have seen this arch, but never at sunrise. Congrats on POTW!

Seriously beautiful, Scott !

This place is on my bucket list. For now I'll have to content myself with enjoying it through your splendid photos.
