More Flower Photos

I don't know what's going on. I really want to get the photo thing going again but, maybe because it's summer, all I seem to be getting is flowers. Here are a couple more beautiful flowers I've captured recently. The red one is in our own yard and the orange one in a friend of ours' yard. I really like to make the flowers stand out by putting a black or very dark background behind them. I didn't happen to have one when I was at my friend's house so I had to just darken it down using some tricks in Photoshop. These flowers don't last long so I've been lucky to capture them at the height of their beauty.

I Like the Way This is Going

For several months now I've been trying to get back into photography more. Strictly for my own enjoyment this time. As part of that I've been looking very seriously at some high end SLR cameras and I also bought Adobe Photoshop CS4 extended and a book to teach me how to use it. I also bought a new larger, brighter monitor for working on Photoshop. Today, as I was moving some flowers in a pot around for the CEO (read - my wife) I noticed some teeny little flowers that I hadn't really looked at before. As I looked closer I thought those are beautiful! So I immediately started thinking about how I could get some good images of them. Incidentally I've also been in the part of the book about RAW images in your camera. That is the best way to get the most information from your photo, but it is also the largest file size on your cards. At the top of this post is a photo taken in RAW format as it came out of the camera and down below is after a little cropping and a little (actually very little) work. I'm really pretty excited about it.

Incidentally, Each of these little "claws" is
actually less than 1 1/4 inches in height.
