I mentioned a few posts back that I was going to try my hand at the very scary (for me) new genre of street photography. So out I went today, camera in hand. The mall cops didn't like it much, but I did get a few photos. When I saw these two, particularly the one on the right, coming in my direction I knew I had to get a shot of her. What do you think?

Color Me Broken Hearted

Lately I've been corresponding with a fellow photographer on flickr because of his great street photography. I told him that I have done extremely little street photography but would like to start doing some. I told him about this one.

The year was 1968 and I was a young soldier stationed in Italy, about 30 miles north of Venice. (I know . . . tough duty - but I had just left a tour in Vietnam a few months before.) As I was wandering around St. Marks Square in Venice, with my Asahi Pentax 35mm I came across this lady sitting and resting a bit. I got directly in front of her and focused and checked my light when she let her mouth drop open and her tongue fall out as she let out a big sigh. To this day, over 44 years later, this is one of my favorite photos I've ever taken. For years I had an enlargement hanging on my walls in my homes as I moved around.

So, why the title? I cannot find the original slide and I've been looking for it for several years. Consequently all I have is a scan that, although it is in color, is only this small size. If I ever find the original slide I'll have it professionally scanned in at the highest resolution I can get.

This is my beginning of street photography, 44 years ago in Venice Italy.

Taken at Bartolaw pond in Grand Teton National Park, this one is really a sunrise taken as the first light of a very cold morning lights up the mountain peaks of the Grand Tetons on October 4, 2012.

T A Moulton Barn in Autumn

There is an unwritten rule that if you consider yourself a photographer, advanced amateur or professional, and you find yourself near the Grand Teton National Park, you are required to photograph the barns on Mormon Row. I captured some that I was pretty happy with early this spring, but I was anxious to get back there this fall to get some leaves, especially fall colored leaves, on those tress. Here is what was probably my best result from the several shots I took.

Tower of Babel reworked

I originally posted this same photo about 18 months ago. I have reworked it with Photoshop CS6 and I think it looks significantly better. There is no artificial lighting used here; it is the natural light of the moon filtered through and reflected off the clouds.
